Shadow Minister of Trade and Industry Dr James graduated the University of the Western Cape with a B.A. Honours (cum laude) and then went to achieve a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, U.S.A. At the beginning of his professional life he served the higher education sector in South Africa, the U.S.A. and the U.K. After spending 12 years as a Trustee of the New York based Ford Foundation, Dr James entered public life during 2008 and was elected to Parliament on 22 April 2009. His areas of policy interests are education, immigration and science & technology.
